Coconut Saplings to Widows on International Widows Day, 23rd June 2015 – Lead by CSNHA

We supported the Netherlands based charitable organisation CSNHA with their efforts to raise funds to donate 5 coconut saplings per family in total of 1,100 families in North. The families were chosen on the basis of possessing a piece of land to grow these trees and having received appropriate training, guidance and on-going monitoring in getting the yield from these trees in approx 3 years time.

Otthulaippu joined hands with CSNHA and Serendip Children’s Home to appear on 2 TV programmes to mark the day. We reminded the audience of the number of widows in North & East of Sri Lanka, their plight and our challenges in providing them with a long term solution.

Work shop on Water Project – 8th November 2014

Otthulaippu organised a workshop on 8th Nov 2014 to establish an understanding as to how we could provide clean water for some areas where there is water scarcity. It was agreed by most stakeholders that this will be taken forward for further analysis after the election in January 2015. However, due to the restrictions placed by the government, ground situation and lack of approvals to these kind of projects by the authorities, it was agreed that Otthulaippu will not be promoting this project at present. It was also agreed that it would be feasible to deal with digging / erecting wells in smaller scale for areas where there is serious water scarcity rather than taking as a fully fledged project in the North & East of Sri Lanka.

Charity Walk

V4U & Serendip Children's Home organised and participated in a Charity Walk in Richmond Park on 7th September 2014.
